It's Almost Time for Holiday Baking. Are you ready?
The holidays are fast approaching and with that comes baking. Lots and lots of baking! To be sure that your cakes, pies, cookies, and other delights are the best they can be you will want to make sure that your ingredients are at their very best as well. The shelf life of your ingredients can make or break a recipe.
Once open Baking Soda and Baking Powder will last 6 months if sealed properly.
Spices will stay fresh for up to one year. Try using a marker to put a date on the bottom of the jar to keep track of freshness.
Flour will last for a year if sealed and stored in the freezer.
And finally, cookie dough will last for 3 – 6 months if frozen. Make a large batch of your favorite dough and freeze in a log wrapped in parchment and sealed. This way you can have freshly baked cookies anytime.
